The Gift

More information on scripts from WordPlay.
A stranger enters a man's home with a gift. The man must decide whether to accept it.

This script is primarily symbolic in nature. The gift represents God's love and salvation. The conversation between the two actors represents the journey and questions one has when making this decision.

This was originally performed around a song (Judas Skin by Vigilantes of Love, which matches the theme very well), with the music coming in near the end, then one of the actors coming back onstage while the music is still playing. It can easily be adapted to work without the song.
Quick glimpse:

Frank: [more and more upset] How do you know?! You don’t even know me!

Delivery Man: I do know you. [gesturing w/ the box] This will change your life.

Frank: I don’t want my life changed!

DM: [disbelieving] Oh really?

Frank: [gives him a look] Get out of here now, or I’m calling the cops!

DM: Frank, just listen to me for a second. I know you, I know what you need. For instance, I know right now that you are trying really hard not to believe me, even though you want to. That’s ok; you don’t have to fully trust me yet. [sets box down on the table] But listen to me very carefully. You DO want this package. I promise you that.

Frank: [afraid and vulnerable] But what’s in it?

DM: I can’t tell you that. [picks up the box again and tries to hand it to Frank] You have to open it yourself.

[Frank doesn’t take it]

DM: You can’t know what the gift is until you accept it, Frank.

Frank: [still afraid and confused] Why should I believe you?

[DM just smiles. Frank smiles back, but quickly regains his composure.]
